Abstract（摘要）

PURPOSE:

Antibioticprophylaxisininguinalherniarepair(IHR)iscontentiousinliteratureandpractice.Inlow-riskpatients,forwhomevidencesuggestsantibioticprophylaxisisunnecessary,manysurgeonsstilladvocateforitsroutineuse.ThisstudysurveysprescriptionpatternsofDepartmentofDefense(DoD)generalsurgeons.

METHODS:

AnanonymoussurveywassentelectronicallytoapproximatelyDoDgeneralsurgeons.Thesurveyaskedmultiple-choiceandfreetextanswersaboutprescribingpatternsandknowledgeofcurrentevidenceforlow-riskpatientsundergoingelectiveopeninguinalherniarepairwithoutmesh(OIHRWOM),openinguinalherniarepairwithmesh(OIHRWM),orlaparoscopicinguinalherniarepair(LIHR).

RESULTS:

0DoDgeneralsurgeonsconsentedtoparticipate.58.6,95and84.2%ofsurgeonsalwaysadministerantibioticprophylaxisinOIHRWOM,OIHRWM,andLIHR,respectively.37.9,70.9,and63.2%ofsurgeonsbelievethatitreducesratesofsurgicalsiteinfectioninOIHRWOM,OIHRWM,andLIHR,respectively.Themost
